Born in Livorno in 1824 and died in Paris in 1920, Amadeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor who belonged to the École de Paris.
Initially trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and Venice, he moved to Paris, considered at the time to be the European capital of the artistic avant-garde.
A cursed artist in fragile health, he sank into alcoholism, drugs and destructive relationships, despite his love for Jeanne Hébuterne, a painter who committed suicide while pregnant a few days after his death.
Modigliani's art was inspired by the Italian Renaissance, Classicism and the post-impressionist movements (Fauvism, Cubism, Abstract Art), a blend of artistic tradition and modernity.
