Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette AKA Colette was an iconic 20th-century French writer and champion of female emancipation and sensuality.
Her unique style is tinged with sensuality and delicacy, with emblematic works such as La Vagabonde (1910), Chéri (1920), Le Blé en herbe (1923) and Gigi (1944).
A mine, actress and journalist in addition to her literary career, she embodied talent, the emancipation of the women of her time, non-conformism and a thirst for freedom, and challenged the social norms of her time throughout her life.
She was honoured in 1945 when she became a member of the Académie Goncourt, and raised to the rank of Grand Officier de la Légion d'honneur in 1953.
