Maria Sklodowska AKA Marie Curie was a pioneering French scientist and one of the most influential in the history of science.
Known for her revolutionary discoveries in radioactivity, along with her husband, Pierre Curie, who died in 1906, she remains a feminist icon of perseverance, intelligence and innovation.
Her scientific work paved the way for major advances in medicine, chemistry and physics, including radiotherapy.
Winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903 with her husband Pierre, and the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1911, she embodied both courage in a profoundly male-dominated environment and talent through her many discoveries, which still inspire generations of scientists today.
